Behind the Songs
The Creek
As a kid, I always loved playing in the forest, especially when our family would go to the trailer. I liked to create little stories and scenarios, like we were lost in the woods and needed to create a shelter.
Along with that love for playing I also loved forts, I would build them all the time with my brother and we loved to come up with cool ideas (that we could never quite get).
Sometimes now, I want to run away from all responsibility and go back to my little forts in the woods.
My nana and poppa had an amazing garden that my family would often visit and play in. It was filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, hedges, flowers and fish ponds. It was one of my favourite places as a child.
In 2021, my grandparents needed to sell their home as my nana was in the hospital and my poppa was all alone. We decided to move my poppa to our city while we waited for my nana to get out of the hospital.
Unfortunately, we lost them both shortly after each other in 2022 and things have felt harder without them.
I wanted to write a song about how their home was always a safe place for me, especially that beautiful garden that they built together and loved so dearly.
I know somewhere in heaven, they have built another garden.
